Uninspired. All creative thoughts deserted me. For the past few weeks, could not even manage to pick up stylus or pencil to do anything. Today, tried continuing the piece that I'm currently working on. Nothing works out. Brush strokes all went wrong. In the end, quit without saving. Looks like the piece is going to stay work-in-progress for quite a while.

Well, currently 'f r e e' would be on hold until I completed this piece, or maybe I'll scrap it. OTL

One reason would be the color scheme I'm planning to use is almost similar to this one. Another reason would be that I did not have the feel to put 'f r e e' into color, the motivation or inspiration is just not there. :\

Anyway, I will finish this up for sure, just that this might take some time. xD

Every time I'm painting this, there will be a distraction, either I will go surf a website, checking facebook, browsing dA, etc ^^;

Okay, enough blogging, back to work. :p

hurhurhur... pedobear strikes!!!

Should be working on 'F R E E' instead of this, but did not have the motivation to paint complicated stuff; yet hands feel itchy to draw/paint something. So this random idea came, just like what I did for 'Miku Insanity'. ^^;

Messy lineart? Yes. Somehow it looks more appealing to me using messy line to draw/paint something like this. A clean lineart make it looks, uh, plain. Maybe it is just me, or maybe I just don't like to follow the conventional way. :p

Oh, and for those who's wondering:

- Hey, isn't Rin wearing a long pant there? So bearbear shouldn't be able to see any pantsu, right?

- Hohoho...unfortunately, that is just knee-high stocking that Rin is wearing, underneath the skirt is still bare thighs and pantsu. So, bear wins.

Its been three daaays!!! ;A; and I had only finished the backdrop, and just started on the character. Going to make some minor adjustment on one of the flower, just had a feeling that the flower is taking the focus away from the main character. Emotions! darn-it! how to channel this thing?? >.<

Still sucks at backdroping. Going to look out for more brushes and pictures for inspiration.

final painting

Continued practicing using tablet, this time started with sketching before painting (previous post was done without initial sketching). Took approximately 4 hours plus to finish the final piece. Additional 4 hours for touch-up, touch-up and more touch-up because I'm unsatisfied with the so-called final outlook orz. (Actually I'm still unsatisfied with... never mind) Comparing the eyes before and after applying the hair, I cannot help but feel that the eyes lost their luster or distinctiveness. Maybe its only me ^^" .... and maybe I should add more shades to her hair, maybe I should draw a full body, maybe a better designed suit... its never gonna end orz.

uhhhhauhhh

Just got myself a Wacom tablet a few days ago (yay?). After a few doodling to get myself accustomed to the tablet, decided to try painting with it. Its been a long time since I do painting, high school to be exact and with traditional poster/water color. So I kind of wonder how different it is between traditional painting and digital painting.

Originally I intended to draw a girl (as I always do, bah) but somehow I cannot managed to draw the face right, need more practice with the tablet (doh). So in the end decided to try speed painting without sketching/drawing. Well, not sure how I fared with the final piece above but maybe I got the color wrong (shouldn't it be pale/greyish instead of yellowish? ugh). And probably I should have paint the background first before started with the subject. orz

Ah, the Kagamine twins. I have been longing to draw both of them but couldn't think of the theme. Stick to their original outlook and depict them singing? Or a normal portrait of them posing? Until I stumbled upon Synchronicity (http://synchro.ninja-web.net/index.html) a supposed three-part saga by Hitoshizuku P. As of now, the first two part can be found on YouTube whereas the final part are yet to be seen or made.

The song gave me the inspiration and idea, the dress and the outfit of both Rin and Len are based on what I've seen on the YouTube videos, no other references as I wanted to keep the idea original. The person in the background was supposed to be Hatsune Miku, but I figured that it looks kind of weird with her mask on, so I switched Megurine Luka in, as she was also one of the antagonist in the story.

And finally, I was kind of undecided on the final edit before I posted this piece. Should I stay with the black/white/grey theme as of my previous work? Or should I experiment with the color balance in Photoshop? Well, time to break away from the norm I guess. :)

For those who hasn't got a clue of what I've been blabbering about, those characters are from Vocaloid. And the vocaloids depicted here are the twins: Kagamine Rin and Kagamine Len; and Megurine Luka.

Oh, and I've drawn roses AGAIN(?) with another method. And background! :3

This piece is actually a 'long, long-lost' (yes, it is that long ago) indirect request from a friend, who messaged me in Facebook asking to be drawn in a sea of wilting roses. If you are reading this, I doubt if you still remember :P Although sticking to your theme, I took some liberty in the character art design, and the caption is just to reflect what is in my mind when drawing this. (No, you are not that scary as in the caption, do not worry. ^^y )

Questions, Dilemma, Life

I have been pondering lately, about my working life. Surely for almost 5 years I have been working in a computer related industry, but it this what I wanted?
The computing industry provides a steady income and I am comfortable with my current job, despite a small alarming situation of the team getting smaller.

My desire however lies somewhere else. I love to draw. I love imagining stuff. I marvel at fantasy artwork done by other artists, regardless of their stature. With these said, here comes the question: should I leave whatever that I have now, and shift my focus to drawing?

I know it will be tough, for several reason. First of all, I had been walking the other path when I graduated from high school. Instead of taking up the arts related degree, I chose to study computer science. I have been naive and clouded by the perception that the computing industry is booming at that time. And because of that, it will be a massive disadvantage for me as I did not possessed an art degree, and not to mention all those foundations and skills which are learned during the course. I know, that all those foundations can be learned by one self and skills can be honed. But as for now, I only have the talent, and regrettably, I am not that young anymore, as I am at the wrong side of 20s. There are also other concerns and commitments around me: my ageing mum, repayments of loans, bills, etc.

I know some of my friends are also pondering about their current lives. What will become of us? Will we be continuing to thread the current path of life just because we need to survive on it? Or shall we change now for sake of our dreams? Of course it is risky, but is the risk worth taking? A worthy reminder: the world is not a kind place.

But as for now, what I can do is to continue drawing, honing my skills and learn up new techniques. Sounds like a new year resolution, but I do hope that I can build a portfolio impressive enough to cover up the lack of an art degree. Then I shall see where I can go from there. Oh, and courage, courage for all my friends and me who share the same dilemma. :)

Here is the initial artwork which I did for the wedding card design, which would be then colored and improved on by MF. Although the design of the card did not come out as what we initially planned, still I felt grateful and honored that the artwork is featured inside the wedding card invitation. And they even made it into one of the wedding's door gifts. Thank you, and once again, I wishes both of you abundant of luck and happiness, and enjoy your blissful marriage!

Non-art related rant here, just feeling a need to get something off my mind. There is something about me, something that even those who knew me for a long time might not even know. I am a quiet, passive, laid-back person, although I might be different depending on who I am interacting with. That, is what most people will know about me.

Being a passive and laid-back person, I might not show emotions sometimes, or worst, might not even speak or chat with the person i knew. I might cause people to think that I am isolating myself from them. Now, the other part of me, truthfully said, I never hold any grudges or ill feeling towards anyone I knew. Once I knew someone, that person will remains a friend in my heart. If my other friends have bad opinions against a person I knew, chances are, I do not care what their opinions are. And if a friend of mine is having problems or having something troubling them, I might not ask what or why. It is something whether they want to share it with me or not. But, chances are, I do really care.

My tribute to 2007 dark fantasy game, Hellgate: London.

The character drawn is based on my in-game character, a marksgirl (marksman actually, but since it's a she, so) named Dawn; depicted here running through an underground tunnel carrying dual M3 Perforator machine pistol and mowing down zombies along the way.

Note to self: Damn, the Hellgate: London OST playing at the background while drawing this really gets my mood going.

Some Update...Sort Of

Almost the end of August, a month since my last post. /crap
Anyway, nothing really been drawn in the past few weeks. Sigh..even though there has been a few ideas lingering in my mind.

Actually there is one artwork that has been done, about a week ago when I helped my buddy, MF to design a wedding card for our friends. Just helped with sketching of the couple in 'chibi' form. Glad that they like it :). Anyway, I'm not going to post that artwork till the wedding card invitation has been handed out (don't want be a spoiler here ^^"). Till then, maybe I'll come out with something else in a day or two, who knows. ;)

This is the artwork I did for the header of this blog. Initially toying with the idea of drawing her walking in a sea of roses, with the flowers decaying around her; in the end turns out with just a flower decaying in her hand. argh! /slap self ;_;

Ah, finally decided to start a blog mainly on my artworks here.

As with the blog's title, kuro/shiro, meaning black/white; therefore most of my works here will be sketches or doodles in black and white. (never tried digital painting before as I did not have a tablet, yet, T_T ) At the meantime, I'm letting my imagination runs wild with whatever tools I have, and seriously, I have to stop procrastinating. xD
